My 16 year old daughter makes boxed mac n’ cheese, rice-a-roni and these! So easy, even she can make them!
Makes 4 1/2lb. burgers
2 lbs. ground sirloin
4 oz. fontina chunk cheese, diced
9 thick cut strips applewood smoked bacon
curly leaf lettuce
1 beefy tomato
1 large red onion, sliced
1 tsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. crushed dried thyme
1 tsp. seasoning salt
1/4 tsp. course black pepper
mayo or miracle whip for buns
deli thick buns (don’t chince or your burger will fall right through it!)
Cut up bacon into bite sized pieces and fry until crispy. Set aside on paper towel to soak up excess grease. Add onions to bacon grease seasoned pan and saute with soy sauce until translucent, slightly browned. Set aside.
For burgers: In large bowl, add beef, garlic, onion powder, dried thyme, salt and pepper. Knead with hands until worked through. Form into 1 big ball and quarter to make four burgers. Take one quarter and split it equally in two. Using a large, round object such as a bowl or saucer, flatten meat and work into 2 even circles (burgers will shrink up as they cook). Add 1/4 of crispy bacon and 1/4 fontina cheese in center of two meat patties. IMPORTANT: After sandwiching bacon and cheese between patties, smash down patties to squeeze out air pockets and pinch sides in at least fingertip length all the way around to form 1 patty. Otherwise, your patty will come apart when you are cooking it. USE A SPATULA TO FLIP!
Pan fry or grill patties to desired doneness. Serve with lettuce, tomato, sauteed onion and mayo on buns.
